At 10k units, this is $25–60 per unit before freight, warranty, retailer margin, cloud inference or profit: 25–120% of the $50 target and 25–60% of the $100 target. Reused platform tooling and 25k+ volume are needed to make the economics less feral.

The screenless promise shifts everything onto audio, enclosure acoustics and physical cues; a pretty prototype can still be deaf, echoey or untestable on a production line.
Path: Run EVT with an acoustics lab and experienced consumer-electronics ODM; complete microphone/speaker chamber tuning, 1 m drop testing, button-cycle testing and a DFM review before cutting production tools.
8.2 [Certification]
A global child-connected product must clear radio, battery, toy-safety and privacy obligations; shipping first and asking questions later is how launches become expensive souvenirs.
Path: Use a compliance lab and regional counsel: FCC Part 15 plus CPSIA/ASTM F963 and COPPA for the US; CE RED, EN 71, RoHS, REACH and GDPR-K for EU; add UKCA and UN 38.3/IEC 62133-2 battery testing. Launch US/EU first, then qualify country variants.

At 10k, estimated hardware BOM is roughly $30–50 before freight, warranty, retail margin and cloud AI. A $50 SKU has no room to breathe; even $100 is tight with recurring inference.

9. Prototype sequence
